Pay Per Click Marketing on the Internet ... the secrets behind success !
During this section on Pay Per Click, I will concentrate on the Google AdWords service as it is by far the biggest Search Engine PPC system and the principles mentioned on these pages are relevant to all PPC programs. The Google Ads are located on the right hand side of the screen above (also called Sponsored Links) Background Google can bring thousands of visitors to your website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year automatically ... this was an impossible dream ten years ago but today it is a reality. Google AdWords is a monetization revolution for small content publishers... AND encourages higher quality content, helping the Net overall. Now every small business person can monetize his/her passion, expertise or knowledge. How?... that is a VERY GOOD QUESTION ! While Google AdWords provides everyone the opportunity to get their website business straight in front of millions of 'targeted customers', if you don't know what you are doing YOU WILL WASTE A LOT OF MONEY, and then probably decide in you head that it is a 'rip off', cancel your account and keep scratching your head while thinking 'how do I get some traffic to my site?' This area of the web-site is aimed at giving a VERY general intro into setting up a Google AdWords account and Campaign and will also hopefully point out a few pit-falls that you must avoid. The 'industry bible' on this subject is Perry Marshall's ULTIMATE GUIDE TO GOOGLE AdWords, and you just have to read it if you are planning to use Google AdWords seriously for your business online. Setting Up A Google AdWords Account - Go to www.google.com and click on the link to Advertising Programs
- Click on 'For Advertisers: Google AdWords'
This will bring up the main Google AdWords Login screen (see pic.) - Click on the Start Now ==> button
This will open a new screen entitled Pick the solution that's right for you. Click on Standard Edition and click Continue - Make sure that Language is set to English and ensure the button Countries and territories before clicking Continue
- The Target customers by country or territory is now displayed (this page specifies which countries your Ads will be displayed in) and I suggest JUST selecting United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and United States unless your product has a particular market in one of the other countries.By specifying all countries a lot of your Ad exposures will be completely wasted and that will affect your click through rate (CTR).
The Google Adwords system now takes you straight to the Create an ad page, even though you have not even entered your own account details in yet ... DON'T PANIC !! You can enter anything in here you want and then change it later.
Vital Information! - Designing Your Google Ad
Assuming you have now created your ad how you want it to look you now follow the following steps:- Click Continue and the Choose keywords page is displayed.
This BIT is VERY IMPORTANT ! Unless your 'targeted keywords' MATCH your Ad wording and that MATCHES your Capture Page (ie. the URL where visitors will be sent to when clicking your ad) in relevant theme, YOU WILL GET NOWHERE and waste your money!
Vital Information! - Keyword Selection in Google Ad Campaigns
- Once you are happy with your targeted keywords click Continue and you will go to the Set Pricing Page. On this page you need to
- Select the currency you wish to use
- Enter your daily budget (ie. what you are prepared to spend on this Ad campaign)
- Set your Maximum PPC ie. the most are prepared to pay for one click on your ad
- You will now see the Review Your Selections page which will display the Ad, your Keywords and your Cost settings. These can all be Edited at this stage before you proceed. When everything looks OK, then click Continue to Sign Up. You will then need to enter the email address that you wish to log-into your Google AdWords account with.
- Continue on the next page where you register your Bank details etc. and you are set-up with an Account and an Ad Campaign ready to start.
ADVICE: Pause your campaign straight away and read Perry Marshall's book The ULTIMATE GUIDE TO GOOGLE AdWords if you havn't yet done so ... it will save you a FORTUNE in the long run if you do !!
